Karma and the Decision Tree

In old school text-based video games, you were given a situation like “you see a locked chest” the choice you make determines what happens next. So the game is entirely different depending on your choices.

So it is with our lives.

Everything you do is a decision. Each decision opens up a set of new choices. Every “problem” with which you are faced has a set of choices which will solve it. The trick, of course, is making the right series of choices. This is how karma works. Karma is not magic or hocus-pocus. There is no “Lord of Karma” punishing or rewarding us.

Your destiny is the sum of your actions, the actions of other sentient beings and the actions of the universe itself. You can only control your part of the equation. Your decisions. Today somebody will make a set of decisions which will lead to their death. Today somebody else will make a set of decisions which will eventually lead to great wealth. They cannot foresee which is which.

If you make a decision which leads to you trying to occupy the same space as something bigger and more solid than you like a truck then you die. That decision could be as innocuous as forgetting to shave and so getting the intersection of Park and Main just in time to get hit by the truck. Fifteen seconds more or less and you live.

This is how our fate unwinds.
